How to make Django rest framework serializer limit size of each item

I have a Django rest framework serializer that takes a lot of data and I am trying to figure out how to limit the size of the response to 2 items. The way I am doing it now is I have a serializer method that accepts a list of items to serialize. I then loop through the items, calling.to_representation on each item to serialize. The call to to_representation is a method in my serializer that takes the item, serializes it and returns the representation of the item. I have tried calling to_representation on the list to serialize, and a single item, and I get the same result. I get a result with a bunch of entries that I don't need. I don't want to show the entire list to the user, but the user shouldn't have to scroll through hundreds of entries.

I have also tried returning a list of items instead of a list of serializers, but that doesn't seem to work either. The serializer that I am using looks like this.
